Our approach

No upsells. No disappearing acts. Just a straight answer about your roof.

We inspect your roof honestly. If a repair is the right call, we'll quote the repair — we're not going to push you into a full replacement you don't need. Every estimate is fixed price, every job is documented with photos before and after, and we're reachable from the first call through final cleanup. Licensed in Oregon (CCB #123456) and Washington (#ROOFER123XX), with $2M general liability and full workers' comp. You're covered — and so are we.

What we install

Roofing materials for every home and budget

We install the full range of residential roofing materials. Manufacturer material warranties pass through directly to you, and every installation is backed by our 50-year workmanship warranty.

  • Asphalt shingles

Architectural (dimensional) and 3-tab shingles from leading manufacturers. The most cost-effective option for most Portland-area homes, with strong wind and impact ratings available.

  • Metal roofing

Standing-seam and exposed-fastener metal systems. Excellent longevity in the Pacific Northwest climate — handles moss, rain, and wind better than most alternatives.

  • Cedar shake, slate & flat roofs

Cedar shake and slate for character homes that call for it. Full TPO, EPDM, and PVC flat-roof systems for low-slope sections or additions.

Storm damage

Hail, wind, or a fallen branch — we'll document it and work with your adjuster

If a storm has hit your home, Smoketest can inspect, photograph, and document the damage for your insurance company. We know what adjusters need to see, and we'll give them an honest assessment — not an inflated one. We don't pressure homeowners into filing a claim. If a targeted repair is the right answer, that's what we'll quote. If a full replacement is warranted, we'll show you exactly why.

Common questions

What homeowners ask us most

  • How long does a residential roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes take one to two days from tear-off to final cleanup. Larger homes, complex roof lines, or specialty materials like slate or metal can run three to four days. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your estimate — not a best-case number.

  • What does your 50-year workmanship warranty actually cover?

It covers defects in our installation — things like improper flashing, fastener failures, or underlayment issues that cause a leak. It's separate from the manufacturer's material warranty, which covers the shingles or panels themselves. Both pass to the next owner if you sell the home.

  • Do you offer financing?

Yes. Zero-down financing is available on qualified replacements through a regional lender, with terms from 24 to 84 months. Ask us for details when you request your estimate — we can walk you through the options without any pressure.

  • Will you work directly with my insurance company?

We can inspect and document storm damage, provide a detailed scope of work, and communicate with your adjuster. We don't act as a public adjuster and we don't guarantee claim outcomes, but we know what documentation insurers need and we'll make sure they have it.

  • Do you serve areas outside Portland?

Yes. We regularly work in Beaverton, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Vancouver WA, and Hood River. If you're in the greater Portland metro, there's a good chance we cover your area — call or email us to confirm.

  • What if I only need a repair, not a full replacement?

We quote what the roof actually needs. If a targeted repair — replacing a few damaged shingles, resealing flashing, clearing a valley — is the right answer, that's what we'll put in writing. We're not going to sell you a new roof to pad the invoice.
